A Ton of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays
The winter break provide a wealth of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, indulging in delicious food, and employing meditation skills to not snapping at loved ones. I hope you managed to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling announcements came out over the holidays, and should you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter further production. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. However, the main art for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and goodwill, and now everyone is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio famous for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
