Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
