The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.

The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.

A Season of Dominance

Across the season, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.

Record-Breaking Numbers

Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.

She earned almost 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.

Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a new level".

Additional WTA Award Recipients

• Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
• Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
