Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Substantial Control Tower IT Issue

A technical fault at the airport's air traffic control meant no planes could enter or leave the airport.

Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a major air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were stopped after an systems problem that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others subject to postponements.

Officials had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their booked journeys," the statement added.

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an technical fault with its air traffic control provider.

Travelers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the hub as residual delays are cleared.
