English midfielder Jordan Henderson admits he has faced "challenging moments" since leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia and admits he could "have made different decisions".

The 35-year-old was widely criticized for leaving Liverpool in 2023 to sign with Al-Ettifaq in a country where homosexuality are against the law.

Henderson had previously been a high-profile advocate of LGBTQ+ rights and apologized for letting down or upsetting members in the LGBTQ+ community when he departed from Saudi Arabia to sign with Ajax half a year after.

International Selection and Thoughts

Henderson was omitted from Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad but is back to the Premier League with Brentford and the England squad under Thomas Tuchel.

"I don't think it was the cause why I didn't make the Euros," Henderson stated. "When I was in Saudi I think I was in each gathering leading up to the Euros."

"Regarding timing, with all things in retrospect, yes - maybe I would have made different decisions."

"However at the period that's how I thought and the decision I made was for various reasons and I alone know those reasons."

Personal Challenges

"I am not going to lie, over the past couple of years I have had several tough moments. It seemed like a parting when I left Liverpool."

"Of course I'm not perfect and I've made errors in the past. Of course I will have during my career."

"However all I've ever sought to do is the correct thing."

England Experience

Henderson has earned 85 caps since making his England debut against France in 2010.

He is in Tuchel's squad to face Wales and Latvia this week and feels he still has a lot to contribute on the pitch.

"The crucial people are the head coach, the backroom staff and the players and what they believe," said Henderson.

"Ask them what they feel, if I am a cheerleader when I am here. I doubt one of the best managers in Europe would be choosing me just to do that."
