The DCU Series Season 2 Last Episode to Fix Major Viewer Grievance, James Gunn Announces
While audience feedback for Peacemaker season 2 has been mostly positive, with viewers and reviewers praising the performances and storyline—despite the fact that the major revelation in episode 7 wasn't exactly a shock—one critique has only grown stronger as the season continues: dwindling runtime lengths.
In recent weeks, viewers have voiced frustration over the noticeably shorter runtimes this season, and indeed, the episodes have been progressively briefer. Episode 7, called “Like a Keith in the Night,” ran just 28 minutes (not counting the recap, opening credits, and end credits), making it the shortest episode so far.
Fans will be pleased to learn the upcoming finale is over 57 minutes long.
Peacemaker showrunner and DC Universe head Gunn posted via social media, responding to a viewer's concern.
Although this is encouraging, it remains unclear exactly how much of the 57 minutes will be actual new footage, uncluttered by intro and outro segments, or recaps of previous events. However, even if the episode contains all the previously mentioned non-essential content, that would still allow for between 45 and 50 minutes for the concluding episode, which is a significant improvement following the previous installment.
The director earlier hinted that the last episode would not only wrap up Peacemaker but also give a hint regarding the future the greater DCU as a whole will be heading and act as a prequel of sorts for the next Superman movie. Considering the brief appearance of the actor's portrayal of Lex Luthor from the sixth installment, many are anticipating a juicy cameo to conclude the series.
The show's season conclusion, episode 8, is called "The Full Nelson," and we'll just have to wait to find out if viewer theories are confirmed.
