Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.

City officials said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for details.

An important representative stated the attack left him stunned and had to be solved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
